Dr Duan LemmerManaging Director & Medical Director
Dr. Duan Lemmer grew up in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga which is located in close proximity to the well known Kruger National Park. He therefore spent a substantial amount of time in the African bush and grew fond of its treasures. He obtained a B.Com (Hons) Accountancy Science degree from the University of Pretoria and then qualified as a medical doctor in 2006. He has a passion for accident and emergency work and worked in private casualty units for several years after completing his community service. He has served on several statutory bodies looking after the interests of South African doctors. Africa SAFE-T has provided him with a unique opportunity to combine his business and medical backgrounds while spending time in the bush.
He is currently based in Johannesburg. In his free time he takes part in adrenaline sports, he is a dedicated gym fanatic and enjoys traveling especially on the African continent.
Lucien NiemannOperations Director & Training College Principal
Lucien grew up in Johannesburg and matriculated from St Albans College in Pretoria. He found his passion for emergency medicine during his high school career where he started as a first aider. He worked as a volunteer in the Trauma Unit of the Johannesburg General Hospital as well as with Netcare911.
Lucien has worked for various EMS companies managing emergency resources in the Emergency Operations Centre. He played an active role in managing and accrediting first aid training programmes for several colleges and providing medical assistance for events. After completing his Intermediate Emergency Care Practitioner training he joined the Africa SAFE-T team. He is currently also the principal of the Africa SAFE-T training college.
Lucien enjoys working in the hospitality industry especially the catering side; he enjoys cooking and wine tasting.
Keith KingFinancial Director
Keith graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London, in 1963 with a BSc (Eng) degree in Aeronautical Engineering and secured a position at the Royal Aircraft Establishment conducting research into flight mechanics and rising to the rank of Senior Scientific Officer.
In 1971 he emigrated to South Africa and joined the CSIR to continue aeronautical research though on a more practical level working with the SAAF. He was promoted to both team leader and Programme Manager, for which positions he completed a course in Financial Management presented by Price Waterhouse Cooper. This experience in the financial side of the programme management was able to be put to good use when he joined Dr Simon King, the founder of Africa SAFE-T, in 2006, to take charge of the company’s finances, and in February 2008 he became the Financial Director.
Ryan CrosleyMadikwe Game Reserve
Ryan Crosley grew up in Johannesburg. His passion for the bush and wildlife developed from a very young age.
He attended King Edward VII High School in Houghton. After he matriculated he qualified as an Intermediate Life Support Paramedic and worked for several private ambulance companies. He still volunteers as a reserve medic for the provincial ambulance services as well as a reserve police officer.
He is currently based in Madikwe Game Reserve at a Field Representative. Ryan spends his free time enjoying the bush, wildlife and sitting on the banks of the local river catching fish.
JC Le RouxSabi Sand Game Reserve
JC matriculated in 2002 and started his career in emergency medical care in Cape Town. He obtained his Intermediate Life Support Certification and proceeded to qualify himself as a flight medical assistant. He has has worked for various ambulance services, locally and abroad and specialised in providing medical assistance at major events.
JC enjoys the outdoors especially fishing, hiking and camping. This passion drew him to Africa SAFE-T where he works in one of South Africa’s premier private reserves, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
JC is currently completing his International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety on a part time basis.
Robert NelHoedspruit Region
Rob Nel grew up in Somerset West nestled on the outskirts of the Cape Winelands where he was introduced to outdoor adventures. He joined a local volunteer Mountain Search and Rescue Team where he was exposed to emergency medical care. In 2006 he commenced studies in Medical Rescue, which provided him with the opportunity to fly with the Red Cross Air Mercy Services as a Secondary Medic. He also trained with the SAAF Squadron 22 as a Rescue Technician on the Oryx and with NSRI Station 4 as a Rescue Swimmer. He subsequently joined a dynamic private ambulance service as part of their management team.
He is currently based in Hoedspruit, enjoys wildlife photography and is still a member of Wilderness Search and Rescue back in his home town.
Lee CiancamerlaRemote Regions
Lee was born in Johannesburg and has lived several European countries. He was exposed to emergency medicine while working for the London Ambulance Services providing first aid services at events. He returned to South Africa and completed his Basic Ambulance Attendant course.
After completing his Basic Life Support course in 2010 and gaining valuable experience working full time with ER24, he was awarded a bursary and completed his Intermediate Life Support Course in 2012. He has since completed several courses such as Medicine in Remote Areas, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and others.
He has a keen interest in remote medicine and the outdoors. These are the main contributing factors that prompted his move to Africa SAFE-T.

Patricia RüschAdministrative Officer
Pat Rüsch was born and matriculated in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. After matriculation she spent more than 20 years working in various financial institutions as well as private entities. Pat has obtained certification as a Trainer in Service Excellence and is a certified Bookkeeper.
She is currently based in Pretoria. In her free time she keeps fit, enjoys reading and the outdoors.
